BOTTLETOP at the Rio Opening Ceremony 2016

Brazilian singer Ludmilla features in one of the most explosive moments of the Opening Ceremony wearing a white, couture body-con catsuit and a troop of 30 ‘Firesword’ dancers wearing metal designs based on vintage motor-cross protective armor.

A blend of sustainable design and intricate hand craftsmanship, these unique pieces designed in London. The creation of the designs has taken place with local artisans between London, Salvador, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Featuring thousands of hand painted, up-cycled metal pull tabs, collected especially from across the state of Bahia in the North East of Brazil and thousands of up-cycled Swarovski crystals from Europe, the hand application of which has happened over a six-month period.

London-based, long-time BOTTLETOP collaborator Bertie Bertinez is the incredible artisan maker of the couture catsuit, gave us a preview of the timely process:

The selection of black-and-white bespoke designs were photographed alongside key monochrome BOTTLETOP styles from the enamelled range including the Carolina and the fringed Suzannah, as well as our Dani Backpack made from Zero-Deforestation Amazon Rainforest leather.

Modelled by Brazilian VS Angel and BOTTLETOP brand ambassador Lais Ribeiro and photographed by Grayson Hoffman in New York.
